Dove award winning worship leader and songwriter Aaron Shust has been blessing the church with songs that connect people with the heart of God since 2005. He currently serves as the volunteer worship leader for his home congregation in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
His first live worship release, Love Made A Way, features vocalists such as Matt Hammitt, Christy Nockels, Grayson|Reed’s Molly Reed, and For All Season’s Emily Hamilton. Listeners will recognize classic praise songs such as “Ever Be,” “Cornerstone” and Shust’s career staple “My Savior My God,” albeit wrapped around new arrangements that freshen them up a bit.
The new songs on this album came from Shust’s inspiration to write bold music celebrating the Lord and proclaiming His strength. This is seen in the declaration of God’s power to turn trials into blessings in “You Redeem,” as well as the humble trust of God’s promise to guide in “Lead On (King Eternal).” “My Hope Is In You” features gorgeous piano arpeggios wrapped around an intense drum pattern as Shust sings about the faithfulness of God in times of trouble.
“Resurrecting” is a spirit-filled Easter anthem that contrasts Jesus both as humble servant and reigning King, while giving us a glimpse into the victorious life that we now have in the resurrected Lord. The best lyric on the album is also the bridge in this song as Shust proclaims over and over, “The resurrected King is resurrecting me.”
This is a nice, safe collection of singable worship that most teams could do on Sunday mornings. The energy is kept up throughout most of the album, but there are also some tender moments of intimate worship that keep it moving forward. Some of the arrangements were a bit copycat-ish and reminded me of a Bethel or Jesus Culture album, but for the most part this was a good offering from Shust.
