Tanya Godsey: Love Lines the Last Horizon

A warm alto somewhere between Amy Grant’s rasp and Margaret Becker’s belt, Godsey works with producer extraordinaire Ben Shive on her third album. The result is radio-ready, piano-driven light pop that avoids the temptation to go full-out Adele. She excels at percussive, mid-tempo ballads drawing from Scripture and classic hymnody. Highlights: the Imogen Heap-style vocal harmonizer on the eschatological “All Things Right,” the Adele-like “Beautiful War,” and the pursuing spirit animating “Anywhere You Are.”
